Butternut + Walnut
48″l x 22″w x 18″t
After all the time I spent around my friends @logjamva, I have finally built a piece of slab furniture! I have carried this slab around for several years now thinking about what it should become…
A modern meets organic piece, the square framed legs juxtapose with the natural grains of the top. Finger jointed corners add the finishing touch (and structural integrity) to the legs. The legs are removable and can be adjusted by use of steel washer shims if the top decides to move with time.
Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is a common woodworking species. Butternut (Juglans cinera) or “White Walnut” is rare and increasingly more so due to butternut canker disease that is devastating native populations. This tree was dying and harvested by my friends @logjamva in 2015 along the bank of the New River in Grayson County, VA.
